Key concepts

Prompts, mentions, citations, share of voice, recommendations, drafts and impact — what each word means in GEOquoted.

Prompts

The questions we put to the AI engines on your behalf — "best aged care providers in Sydney", "how do I choose a home care package". GEOquoted infers a starting set when you add a brand; you can edit them at any time under AI Visibility → Prompts & Competitors. Your plan sets how many prompts are tracked.

Engines

The AI assistants we query: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google) and Perplexity. Visitors arriving from Copilot are also recognised in your traffic.

Mention and citation

A mention is your brand being named anywhere in an answer. A citation is the engine pointing at one of your pages as a source. Both are recorded per engine, per prompt, per run — the AI Visibility chart plots them as rates over time.

Share of voice

Your share of all brand mentions across your tracked prompts, compared with the competitors you have named. Available on paid plans.

Citation source map

The domains AI answers rely on when your category comes up — directories, review sites, government pages, competitors — and where you stand on each. It tells you where being listed or quoted would move the needle.

Recommendations

Specific pieces of work, each tied to evidence: a page missing FAQ schema, a thin page, broken internal links, a competitor being cited for a question you should own. Each has a status from To do through to Completed, and completion is verified rather than simply ticked.

Drafts

Where a recommendation is "rewrite this page", we write the improved version. Drafts wait under Improve → Next steps until you publish the change on your site and mark it implemented. Until then nothing is measured.

Site changes and markers

Anything you mark as done — a recommendation, a draft, or a change you log yourself — becomes a dated marker on your charts. Markers are how the product ties a movement in the numbers back to the work that caused it.

Impact

The comparison of the 28 days after a change with the 28 days before, using daily averages over the days we actually have data for. See How impact is measured.

Workspace, brand, seat

A workspace is your organisation: billing, people and brands live there. A brand is one website you track; plans set how many you can have. A seat is one person with access to the workspace.
